Barber Program – 1500 clock hours

The Barber Program is what Westark Barber College is all about! Providing the student with 1500 hours of classroom and hands-on training and experience, the Barber Program equips the student with all the education and skills needed to attain licensure as a professional barber. Become a professional barber in as little as ten months!

Crossover Program – 600 clock hours

For licensed cosmetologists wanting to broaden their horizons and add to their skill set, Westark Barber College offers the Crossover Program, which provides licensed cosmetologists the required 600 hours of education and training to attain licensure as a professional barber.

Barber Instructor Program – 600 clock hours

For licensed barbers seeking to take their career to the next level by sharing their professional wisdom and experience with the next generation of up-and-coming barber, Westark Barber College offers the Barber-Instructor Program. Consisting of a combination of academic study, which prepares the future instructor to someday lead classes of their own, as well as practical “hands-on” training; i.e., writing lesson plans and providing barber students with hands-on haircutting instruction and assistance on the floor, the 600 clock hour program provides the Barber Instructor student with all the confidence and training required to attain licensure as a professional Barber Instructor.

*Disclaimer: All courses are taught solely in the English language. While all students are welcome at Westark Barber College, any and all language translation required for academic purposes is solely the responsibility of the student.

Crossover Program

*Crossover students are not required to purchase the basic toolkit. Should they opt to not purchase the basic toolkit, total tuition & fees would be $2960.

*As agreed upon in the Instuctor Student enrollment contract, a 10% down-payment ($1,250) is required by the Instructor Student at the time of enrollment.

Admission Requirements

All applicants to Westark Barber College must meet the following requirements:

-Applicant must be 18 years of age OR a high school graduate*
-Applicant must provide a copy of a current government-issued photo ID
-A personal interview with each applicant is required prior to acceptance for enrollment
-Applicant must provide a copy of a current social security card
-Applicant must complete an application for admittance.
-Applicant must provide proof of secondary education, such as a high school diploma, GED certificate, an official transcript showing secondary school completion, a state certification of home-school completion, or an Ability-to-Benefit per our policy below.*
-Applicants for Barber Instructor must be a licensed barber
-Applicants for the Crossover program must be a licensed cosmetologist
-Applicants transferring from other barber colleges must have proof of transcripts to receive credit hours.

-Under Arkansas Law, students still attending secondary school are permitted to apply, but should make up less than 10% of active students. Westark Barber College will accept no more than 1 secondary school student per school year.
-Should an enrolling student provide a foreign high school diploma, the institution will work with the student to obtain an English translation of the document from an outside agency qualified to do so, along with confirmation that the education received is equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma.  This documentation must come from an outside agency.

Ability-to-Benefit Policy
Students who did not complete a high school diploma or its equivalent and are beyond the age of compulsory education are allowed the opportunity to demonstrate that they have the ability to benefit (ATB) from the training offered at our institution. Prior to enrollment, the applicant must be able to successfully pass an aptitude test provided by TABE, Inc. measuring the student’s ability to benefit from the program. All responsibilities associated with the necessary aptitude test; i.e., costs, scheduling, etc., are solely the student’s responsibilities.  However, should certain mitigating circumstances exist that prevent the applicant from testing with TABE, Inc., as determined by Westark Barber College administration, the applicant may, at the School’s discretion, be granted temporary admission status.  An academic and skills evaluation will take place when the student has attained 250 clock hours, which will determine whether or not the student will be able to remain enrolled in the program.  Unsatisfactory evaluations, as determined by Westark Barber College administration, will result in the termination of the student’s enrollment status. 
 
Additionally, ATB students must meet the following requirements for admission:
 
-Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
-Applicant must provide a copy of a current government-issued photo ID

-Applicant must provide a copy of a current social security card
-Applicant must complete an application for admittance.

It is the mission of Westark Barber College to provide post-secondary education of the highest standards and quality that will prepare students to not just pass the state licensing exam and gain employment in the barbering field, but to be highly skilled, successful barbers and barber instructors.  In order to make this a reality, we at Westark Barber College will always strive to be professional, kind, and compassionate as we help you to attain your goal of becoming a barber or barber instructor.

Arkansas State Law dictates that a student must complete 1500 clock-hours of training as well as successfully pass a 2-part comprehensive exam (written & practical) administered by the State of Arkansas Division of Labor & Licensing.

Westark Barber College isn’t just a great place to learn. We’re also a full-service barbershop, offering the public $5 haircuts Monday through Friday, 10am – 4:30pm.
